Rotation Overview:
The ENT anesthesia rotation is a one month subspecialty rotation providing the resident with an in-depth exposure to a major surgical subspecialty in a tertiary care referral center. By daily assignment, the resident participates in the pre-operative assessment of ENT patients of all ages (pediatrics to geriatrics) with a wide range of coexisting medical diseases and airway pathology. The resident under faculty supervision will be responsible for formulation and implementation of an appropriate anesthetic plan in consultation with their surgical colleagues. This kind of two-way communication, an essential skill in a surgical subspecialty where the airway must be shared, demonstrates to the resident the importance of inter-service communication that relates to many areas in anesthetic practice.
