DEFINITIONS
Body Mass Index (BMI):
- is a measure of body weight adjusted for height and is an indirect measure of body fat
- is calculated by the following formula:
- BMI = body weight (in kg)/ height (in m)2
Dyslipidemia may be due to any of the following (De Ferranti, 2009):
- Triglyceride concentrations of > 150 mg/dL
- HDL concentrations of < 35 mg/dL
- Total cholesterol > 200 mg/dL
- LDL level > 130 mg/dL
Overweight:
- BMI >85th% and <95 th% for age and gender (in children >2 years of age)
- Weight-for-height >95 th% for age and gender (in children <2 years of age)
Obesity:
- BMI >95 th% for age and gender (in children > 2 years of age)
