Faculty Profile

  • Dr. Carlos Dostal is board certified in Internal Medicine and Addiction Medicine and is a faculty member in the Division of General Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch. He completed residency in Internal Medicine at UTMB and earned his MD and PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Illinois College of Medicine. He holds a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin, previously worked as a Field Engineer, is originally from South Texas, and is fluent in Spanish.

    Dr. Dostal directs the Internal Medicine Primary Care Pavilion Substance Use Disorders (SUD) Clinic and leads the Addiction Medicine Consult Service, delivering integrated inpatient and outpatient care for patients with substance use disorders. He attends on the medical wards at Jennie Sealy Hospital and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Hospital and is actively engaged in resident and medical student education. His academic interests focus on addiction medicine, integrated care models, medical education, and disaster and humanitarian medicine.
