The Vincent Conti, MD Lectureship started in 2017 and was joined with two other lectureships within the Department of Surgery, namely the William J. Mileski, MD, Lectureship, and Courtney M. Townsend, Jr., MD, FACS, FRCSEd (hon) Lectureship. The three lectureships are named after providers whose major contributions to the medical field and UTMB have driven significant change and support throughout their time with the organization.
Some of Dr. Conti’s many accomplishments include:
“Super Doctor” 13 years in a row
“Best Doctors in America” eight years in a row (2007-2014)
Division Chief of UTMB Cardiothoracic for over 30 years
Director of the UTMB Cardiothoracic residency program for more than 20 years
More than 80 peer-reviewed research manuscripts and over 2000 citations
Presented the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who’s Who
The Dr. Conti Lectureship Series highlights influential contributions to the field of cardiothoracic surgery.

Thoughts on Dr. Conti from Dr. Scott Lick, MD, FACS
“He was a master cardiac surgeon—when I started here after my training, I decided to re-learn cardiac surgery using his techniques and system, because it was simply better. Dr. Conti helped me during the first formative years by ensuring that I had progressively more difficult cases, with his back-up if needed (and often was). He drove the every-other-year review of the adult cardiac surgery patient care protocol, ensuring that nursing, anesthesiology, perfusion and pharmacy were all on board.”
