Dr. Philippe Zimmern, MD will join the UTMB Division of Urology on April 6th from 8-9 PM CT to discuss "Alternatives to Mesh in the Management of Stress Urinary Incontinence."
About the speaker:
Philippe Zimmern, MD, is a Professor of Urology at UT Southwestern Medical Center and the recipient of the Felecia and John Cain Chair for Women’s Health in Urology. His clinical specialties include incontinence, prolapse, voiding dysfunction, urodynamics, fistula and urethral diverticulum repairs, mesh implant complications, and urinary tract infections. He also specializes in vaginal surgery with native tissue repair, and in minimally invasive robotic surgery for prolapse. He completed his medical school training, residency, and doctoral thesis at Necker-Enfants Malades Hospital in Paris, France, followed by a residency and fellowship at the UCLA School of Medicine. He served as the director of the Urodynamics Laboratory at the Kaiser Foundation Hospital in Los Angeles and later joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 1995, where he currently directs a two-year fellowship program in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery. He is a visiting professor in the United States, Europe, China, Australia, and Canada, has editorial and advisory responsibilities for many urology journals, and has co-authored over 365 publications, 28 surgical movies, 65 book chapters, and co-edited four textbooks. Dr. Zimmern’s major honors include the Paul Zimskind Urodynamic Society Award, the Jane and John Justin Distinguished Chair in Urology, in honor of Claus G. Roehrborn, M.D., the SUFU Distinguished Service Award, the Continence Care Champion Award, and the Leaders in Excellence Award. He has also served as the President of the Society for Urodynamics and Female Urology. His major specialty interests include female urology, incontinence, and pelvic organ prolapse, and his research interests include voiding dysfunction, pelvic organ prolapse, recurrent UTIs, neurourology, incontinence, and bladder diseases.
