Nov 12, 2024, 12:19 PM by Anthony Laico (MS2)

This past weekend, Drs. Cox and Blakely attended the 40th Annual Meeting of the Texas Society for Vascular and Endovascular Surgery (TSVES) in Austin, Texas. New faculty Dr. Channa Blakely shared her insights on maintaining wellness in residency during the conference’s resident and student symposium. Resident Dr. Junji Tsukagoshi, PGY-4, presented “Carotid Artery Intervention May Still Be Justified in Asymptomatic End-Stage Renal Disease Patients.”

During the simulation session, representatives from Gore, Penumbra, Getinge, Boston Scientific, and Medtronic brought specialized trainers and surgical supplies. Residents and students practiced their anastomoses as well as endovascular skills using simulated endovascular devices.

Additionally, several medical students shared their research projects during the plenary and poster sessions. These presentations were well received and helped to promote the next generation of vascular surgeons. They were:

Anthony Laico – “Catheter-Based Intervention in the Low-Intermediate Risk PE Patient: Increased Utilization With Only Modest Benefits”

Lily Cormier – “Perioperative and Long-Term Outcomes of Lower Extremity Revascularization in Patients with Malignancy”

Emmanuel Ebirim – “Atherectomy with Angioplasty vs. Angioplasty Only for Critical Limb Ischemia with Isolated Tibial Disease”

Jyothika Annareddy – “Burn Wounds in Vasculopaths: Hopeless Situation or Treatable Problem?”

Congratulations to the faculty, residents, and students for representing UTMB!
