The American Association of Medical Assistants® (AAMA) installed Sherry Bogar, CN-BC, CMA (AAMA), as the 2023-2025 AAMA Speaker of the House in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, at the 67th AAMA Annual Conference. In this capacity, Bogar, a resident of League City, Texas, represents medical assistants and CMAs (AAMA)® across the nation.

Medical assisting is one of the nation’s careers growing much faster than the average for all occupations, according to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics. Medical assistants work in outpatient healthcare settings. Employers are seeking and recruiting these allied health professionals because of their uniquely diverse clinical and administrative patient-centered training.

“It is such an honor to be chosen to serve the AAMA membership and all credentialed medical assistants nationwide,” says Bogar. “Our profession is integral to the delivery of quality patient care as part of the health care team because of our unique blend of knowledge, competence and versatility.”

Bogar brings a great deal of experience to her role. She has been a CMA (AAMA) and medical assistant for 20 years and currently works as a certified patient navigator and medical assistant at University of Texas Medical Branch Surgical Oncology and Breast Health Clinic in League City, Texas. Bogar also serves her community as the vice president of the Clear Creek Swim League.

Bogar has served the AAMA in many capacities, including as a 2018-2022 AAMA Trustee and 2022-2023 AAMA Vice Speaker of the House. She has also served as the chair and member of many AAMA committees, task forces and strategy teams, including Awards, Marketing, Membership Development, Social Media, Strategic Issues Planning, Partnership, Leadership Development, Bylaws and Resolutions, Annual Conference and Career Professional Development. In addition to being the 2023-2025 AAMA Speaker of the House, Bogar serves as the Texas Society of Medical Assistants Speaker of the General Assembly, as well as Website Chair, Publicity Chair and Nominations Chair.

The Certified Medical Assistant (AAMA)® — or CMA (AAMA) — credential represents a medical assistant who has been credentialed through the Certifying Board (CB) of the AAMA. The CB of the AAMA was awarded accreditation by the International Accreditation Service (IAS) under ISO/IEC Standard 17024:2012, the global benchmark for personnel certification bodies, thus distinguishing the CMA (AAMA) from all other medical assisting certifications.
