We are pleased to announce that Dr. Jonathan Pierpoline, a PGY-2 resident in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery program, co-authored a recently published article with Dr. Camilo Mosquera, faculty in the OMFS program, titled “Long-Term Functional Outcomes of Free Flaps Versus Locoregional Flaps in Soft Tissue Reconstruction for Oral Cavity Cancer: A Systematic Review,” published in The Journal of Craniofacial Surgery.
This study evaluates the outcomes of free flaps versus locoregional flaps in oral cavity cancer reconstruction, focusing on survival, recurrence, quality of life, and functional parameters such as speech, swallowing, and the need for long-term gastrostomy or tracheostomy.
