Isabella Faria, MD was awarded 2024 Guadalupe Garcia-Tsao Emerging Liver Scholar Award, awarded by the AASLD Foundation- American Association of Studies for Liver Disease.

The award aims to encourage the pursuit of hepatology among exceptional residents who show promise in academic medicine. Named awards of distinction recognize highly deserving candidates who represent the future leadership of hepatology.

A message from Dr. Faria:

"I am very humbled to have received this award for my research work in advancing liver transplantation, incentivizing collaboration between researchers, and evaluating gender disparities in the transplantation workforce. Before coming to UTMB, my research focused on exploring transplantation collaboration patterns during a post-doctoral research fellowship in transplant surgery at Harvard Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Currently, I work with Dr. Michael Kueht, Dr. Trine Engebretsen and Dr. Luca Cicalese at UTMB in liver and kidney transplantation outcomes research and machine perfusion for liver transplantation. This award will allow me to learn directly from world-class leaders in liver disease and foster collaborations with researchers nationwide. As an Emerging Liver Scholar, I will have the opportunity to hone my focus on liver transplant surgery and advance my career in the field."
