The MPH in Public Health Practice is a two-year program that provides students with more applied education and experiences to individuals interested in practicing public health. Courses will focus on addressing skills gaps identified
in national workforce surveys (PH WINS), such as systems and strategic thinking, community engagement, justice, equity, fairness and equal opportunity, and cross-sectoral partnerships.
Students will be trained to succeed in a variety of public health careers
including governmental public health, non-profit organizations, and other agencies/organizations meeting public health needs. The first cohort of students in the Public Health Practice concentration will start in the Fall 2023 term.
After completing the coursework, students with the MPH in Public Health Practice will be able to:
- Evaluate the functions and limitations of health systems in the United States
- Develop a plan to allocate and manage resources to address population health issues
- Apply evidence-informed intervention strategies to improve the health of populations
- Engage with diverse partners (e.g. community residents, governmental public health agencies, healthcare organizations, educational institutions, and/or nonprofit agencies) to improve the health of populations
- Synthesize knowledge to implement strategies that advance the health of populations
