About Me

Miriam Rich is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Bioethics and Health Humanities and holds the James Wade Rockwell Professorship in Philosophy of Medicine. She was previously a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Dartmouth Society of Fellows and a Lecturer in History of Medicine at Yale University. She received her PhD in History of Science from Harvard University. Her first book, Monstrous Conceptions: Race, Reproduction, and Medical Science in America, 1830-1930, is under contract with Columbia University Press.

Dr. Rich’s research and teaching interests span topics related to reproductive health, concepts of race and disability in medical science, the health harms of incarceration, citizenship and public health, the racialization of obstetric pain, and vaccination policy in modern U.S. history. She has taught at Yale School of Medicine, Yale University's Program in History of Science and Medicine, and Dartmouth College's Department of History, and has also worked for Yale’s SEICHE Center for Health and Justice.
