New article published in Biomedicines by Dr. Olivier Escaffre, Dr. Peter Szaniszlo and Dr. Katalin Modis in collaboration with the UTMB Biorepository of Severe Emerging Infections (BSEI) and SPECTRE’s Dr. Susan McLellan and Dr. Corri Levine: Lung microvascular endothelial injury plays a critical role in the pathophysiology of COVID-19. The beneficial effects of Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) in several pathological processes have provided a rationale for considering the therapeutic implications of H2S in COVID-19 therapy. This study was aimed to assess the effect of the slow-releasing of an H2S donor on the barrier function of a human lung microvascular epithelial cell (EC) monolayer in vitro, after challenging the cells with plasma samples from COVID-19 patients or inactivated SARS-CoV-2 virus.
