The UTMB Biocontainment Unit (BCU) team recently held Quarterly Training, centered on postmortem care. This training event provided crucial education on handling a decedent with both dignity and precision. We were happy to have the collaboration of our local funeral home, offering invaluable guidance and direction that significantly boosted our team's readiness.
During the training, our team members practiced essential tasks such as properly donning and doffing personal protective equipment (PPE) and securely containing a decedent for infection control. We also focused on maintaining strict safety protocols throughout the process. Importantly, the training underscored the need for compassionate and effective communication with families during these sensitive times.
This collaborative effort ensured that every participant walked away with enhanced skills and knowledge, highlighting the vital importance of compassionate and effective postmortem care.
