Commencement Speaker
David J. Skorton, MD, President and CEO of the AAMC (Association of American Medical Colleges) will deliver the keynote address. In this role, he has addressed social issues that affect health, guided the AAMC through a pandemic, and built a multiyear strategic plan to tackle the nation’s most intractable challenges in health care.
He is a Distinguished Professor at Georgetown University and served as the 13th secretary of the Smithsonian Institution. He has also served as president of Cornell University and the University of Iowa, where he also served on the faculty for 26 years and specialized in the treatment of adolescents and adults with congenital heart disease.
Senior Faculty Marshal
Norman Miles Farr, MD, MPH, will serve as Senior Faculty Marshal. Dr. Farr is the Assistant Provost for Community Engagement and Education, Associate Program Director for the Internal Medicine residency program, and Medical Director of St. Vincent’s Hope Clinic.
As Assistant Provost, he is responsible for the leadership of implementing interprofessional community engagement practice activities for all UTMB health education programs through partnerships with the UTMB Health System and community organizations. He continues to practice both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, precepting medical students and residents, and has received numerous recognitions for teaching excellence.
