The Educational Research Committee (ERC), a standing committee of the John Sealy School of Medicine Curriculum Committee, is co-chaired by Era Buck and Karen Szauter. The ERC is charged with supporting and encouraging high-quality educational research in the School
of Medicine.
The ERC supports educational research in the John Sealy School of Medicine through a program of regular activities. These
include educational research skills acquisition workshops, "work in progress" sessions, and coaching for
educational conference submissions.
The ERC is also charged by the Curriculum Committee with reviewing educational research projects that collect data from medical students or that use data originally collected for educational purposes.
Curriculum Committee policy requires that it approve all such projects. This process complements but does not replace approval by the Institutional Review Board (IRB). To initiate the ERC review with the goal of obtaining Curriculum Committee approval
of an educational research project, download and complete the ERC Review Form (Doc) and forward it by email to Karen Szauter.
For additional information about the Educational Research
Committee or any of its activities, including the research project review process, contact Karen Szauter.
