Biography
Michael Whitehead, DHSc, PA-C, DFAAPA, is a professor in the Department of Physician Assistant Studies in the UTMB John Sealy School of Medicine. Originally from northern New York state, Dr. Whitehead graduated from the US Army PA program over thirty years ago and is a combat veteran. After retirement from the Army, he worked in primary care for several years before becoming a full time PA educator. He earned his Doctor of Health Science degree from Nova Southeastern University, his Master of Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Nebraska Medical Center and has bachelor’s degrees from Creighton University and Chaminade University of Honolulu.

Dr. Whitehead started his PA education career as part of the founding faculty at the Wingate University PA program in North Carolina. From there he became the founding director of the Clarkson University PA program in his native northern New York State. From there he was a faculty member at the MCPHS Manchester-Worcester PA program and then moved on to lead a new program at Assumption University in Worcester, Massachusetts.

Dr. Whitehead’s clinical interests include dermatology, GI, and orthopedics as well as overall primary care. He is also an advocate for a holistic approach to patient care that incorporates compassion and empathy. His hobbies include gardening and interacting with the family pets.
