UTMB Alumni

For over 130 years, UTMB alumni have been changing the world of medicine, nursing, research, and health professions.

Founded as the state’s first medical school, the UTMB John Sealy School of Medicine has conferred more than 16,000 medical degrees since its inception in 1891.

Established in 1890, the UTMB School of Nursing is a school of many firsts: the first nursing school west of the Mississippi River, the first nursing school to become affiliated with a university, the first to establish an MSN degree in Texas, and the first in the state to offer online graduate education in nursing.

The UTMB School of Health Professions was the first allied health school in the Southwest when it was established in 1968. Since then, the school has granted degrees and certificates to more than 11,000 graduates in several areas of health professions.

In 1969, the University of Texas Board of Regents permitted the establishment of a degree-granting Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences on the UTMB campus. Today, the program has expanded to more than a dozen graduate programs, 4 institutes, and over 10 research centers. GSBS graduates are currently found in prestigious and influential positions in universities, government, and industry.

The School of Public and Population Health serves as a hub for integrating and aligning research, scholarship, practice, and education strengths across UTMB to address public health challenges in our city, our state, and beyond.

The UTMB Physician Assistant Studies (PAS) Alumni Association exists to strengthen and support the PAS program by promoting life-long relationships between alumni, current students, faculty, university leadership, and friends.
