Acute Care for Elders Unit Functional Laboratory

The ACE Unit Functional Laboratory, located on the 11th floor of Jennie Sealy Hospital, is used to measure function and body composition in hospitalized geriatric research participants. It includes a 400 sq ft physical function testing and DEXA area as well as 150 sq ft study coordinator office. Nutritional and functional assessments, body composition, cognitive and quality of life tests are performed in the ACE Unit Functional Lab.

  • One Lange, Skin Fold Caliper for estimating leanness-fatness.
  • Table, chairs, and small desk used for patient seating and some functional tests and used for equipment storage and workstation for research staff.
  • One Tanita multi-frequency segmental body composition bioimpedance scale for the measurement of body composition.
  • Two Tanita single frequency body composition bioimpedance scale for the measurement of total body composition in patients with pacemaker or defibrillator.
  • One Lafayette Electronic Manual Muscle Tester is a microprocessor-controlled hand-held dynamometer.
