New Study Reveals Disparities in HIV Treatment Among Medicare Beneficiaries

Jan 7, 2025, 11:23 AM by SCOA

Researchers—including Sealy Center on Aging Fellows Drs. Yu, Kuo, Raji, and Berenson—have published a study examining trends in antiretroviral therapy (ART) prescriptions for Medicare beneficiaries with HIV. While ART use has increased overall, the study highlights significant disparities, with lower prescription rates among women, younger (18-29) and older (80+) enrollees, and those with conditions like dementia or alcohol use disorder. These findings emphasize the need for targeted efforts to ensure equal access to HIV treatment for all Medicare beneficiaries.
