The Abdominal Imaging section performs diagnostic studies using computed tomography (CAT scans), ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), fluoroscopy, and X-rays.

The section benefits from extensive remodeling and new equipment obtained within the last three years. All studies are reviewed on PACS computer workstations. The body MRI scanner was recently upgraded to the "GE EXCITE" platform. This advanced equipment enables our section to remain on the leading edge of diagnostic imaging.

Computed tomography is performed using state-of-the-art helical and multi-detector CT scanners with rapid scanning capability. CT scans serve to diagnosis and treat various abdominal disorders, perform angiography, guide biopsies and catheter placement, detect tumors, plan radiation therapy, and perform virtual colonoscopy (CT Colonography). MRI aids in the diagnosis of liver, pancreatic, renal and gynecologic diseases. MR angiographic studies replace more invasive studies.

The ultrasound area creates gray scale, color, and spectral Doppler ultrasound images of the abdomen, pelvis, gynecologic organs, prostate, thyroid, and musculoskeletal system.

Gastrointestinal imaging offers a complete spectrum of static and dynamic diagnostic procedures using a variety of contrast media. In addition to upper GI series, barium enema, special small bowel studies, swallowing studies with videotape recording are performed using both analog and digital fluoroscopy.
