Immunology, effective March 1, 2025. An accomplished microbiologist, educator,
and academic leader, Dr. Endsley has been an asset to the department for nearly
two decades. She has the vision and experience necessary to lead its next
chapter.
With expertise
in microbiology, immunology, tuberculosis, HIV, and vaccine development, Dr.
Endsley is a highly successful and productive researcher. She has maintained a
robust and continuous portfolio of extramural funding, including
co-directorship of the NIH T32 Biodefense Training Program. She currently leads
a multidisciplinary and international research program in infectious disease
immunology that includes active partnerships in East Africa and the U.S./Mexico
border.
Dr. Endsley
earned her PhD in Immunobiology from Iowa State University. She went on to
complete USDA and NIH T32 postdoctoral fellowships in infectious disease and
host defense in the Department of Veterinary Pathobiology at the University of
Missouri – Columbia and the Department of Pediatrics at UTMB.
Following her
training, Dr. Endsley joined UTMB’s Department of M&I faculty in 2006,
becoming a full Professor in 2019. She holds a secondary appointment in the
Department of Pathology and is a member of the Sealy Institute for Vaccine
Sciences, the Institute for Human Infections and Immunity, and the WHO Center
for Tropical Diseases. As a member of the Graduate School of Biomedical
Sciences (GSBS) faculty for M&I, Experimental Pathology, and Human
Pathophysiology and Translational Medicine (HPTM), she has been a dedicated
educator and research mentor for numerous trainees in biomedical sciences since
2007. Since 2021, she has further provided leadership in graduate education as
the Associate Dean for Student Affairs in the GSBS.
I am excited
for the department’s continued success and growth with Dr. Endsley at the helm.
Her extensive research experience, dedication to mentorship, and strong
emphasis on interdisciplinary collaboration will help define the future of
M&I at UTMB. Please join me in congratulating her and welcoming her to this
new role.
