Office of Faculty Affairs Names Associate Vice Provost for Leadership Development

A Message from the Vice President and Executive Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs

We are elated to share that Kimberly Skarupski, PhD, MPH, will join the Office of Faculty Affairs as Associate Vice Provost, Leadership Development, effective Aug. 19, 2024.

Dr. Skarupski comes to UTMB from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD, where she is currently Senior Associate Dean for Faculty Development, Professor of Medicine in the Division of Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology in the School of Medicine, and Professor of Epidemiology in the Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Dr. Skarupski’s faculty development career has been guided by her passion for building community. She has led programs that empower faculty members to become leaders through the sharing of knowledge, resources, and support. She is a certified professional coach through the College of Executive Coaching and has developed group coaching and career development coaching camps for faculty. Dr. Skarupski hosts the Faculty Factory podcast, discussing all facets of academic affairs and faculty development.

A social gerontologist and program evaluator, Dr. Skarupski has a primary research interest in quality of life in older adults. Recently she has merged her gerontologic and faculty development interests to explore late-career faculty members’ career needs, retirement expectations and experiences, and caregiving roles. At UTMB, Dr. Skarupski will hold appointments in the Department of Internal Medicine in the John Sealy School of Medicine and in the School of Public and Population Health.

Dr. Skarupski’s tremendous knowledge, experience, and commitment to developing faculty leaders will greatly enhance our work in the Office of Faculty Affairs, and we eagerly look forward to her arrival. Please join me in warmly welcoming her to UTMB!

Sincerely yours,

Susan Chubinskaya, PhD
Vice President and Executive Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs
Professor, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation
Peaches and Shrub Kempner Distinguished Professor in Health Disparities
