A Message from the Executive Vice President, Provost, and Dean, John Sealy School of Medicine
Please join me in celebrating the achievements of two of our John Sealy School of Medicine MD program students! Mallory Walters and Leonard Wang have been announced as Fulbright Program Scholars.
Ms. Walters will move to Asturias, Spain for nine months and act as an English teaching assistant for students of all ages. Having previously taught English during her study abroad experience in Granada, Spain, she looks forward to sharpening her communication skills for her future practice as a physician and strengthening her cross-cultural competence, enabling her to connect with and reach patients of diverse cultural backgrounds. Ms. Walters is a Scholar in the Joint Admission Medical Program (JAMP), a highly competitive pipeline program that supports outstanding Texas students in pursuing medical careers.
Mr. Wang, an MD/MPH student, has been awarded the opportunity to travel to the United Kingdom. He will pursue an MSc in Health and Social Policy at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland during the 2024-2025 academic year. Following his Fulbright year in Glasgow, Mr. Wang plans to pursue a Master of Business Administration at the University of Cambridge in Cambridge, England during the 2025-2026 academic year.
The Fulbright Program is the world’s largest and most diverse international educational program. It is devoted to increasing mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries, encouraging participants to engage in their local communities while exemplifying the qualities of service, leadership, and excellence throughout the exchange.
This is an outstanding achievement that we are thrilled to recognize. Please join me in congratulating Mallory Walters and Leonard Wang!
Sincerely yours,
Charles P. Mouton, MD, MS, MBA
