Please join me in congratulating Majka B. Woods, PhD,
on her appointment as the inaugural Chair of the Department of Medical
Education in the John Sealy School of Medicine (JSSOM), effective immediately.
This role is in addition to her position as Vice Dean for
Academic Affairs in the JSSOM. Dr. Woods joined UTMB in 2015 as Assistant Dean
and Director of Educational Development in the School of Medicine and became
Associate Dean for Educational Affairs in 2018. She was promoted to Vice Dean
for Academic Affairs in late 2020, after serving ad interim since 2019.
Through her work in our JSSOM, she has helped to expand and
support faculty development efforts related to the delivery of high-quality
medical education, and has collaborated with other schools to develop robust,
consistent education systems. Dr. Woods holds a PhD in educational
psychology from Baylor University, as well as a bachelor’s degree and a
master’s degree in education from Baylor.
As the inaugural Chair of the Department of Medical
Education, she will focus on excellence in patient education, mentoring, and
scholarship, working closely with the Vice President and Chief Research
Officer, Chairs, Institute and Center Directors, and other leaders to achieve
these results. We are grateful for her outstanding contributions thus far, and
we are excited for her leadership as she takes on this new role.
Many thanks,
Charles P. Mouton, MD, MS, MBA
