Academic Enterprise Announcements Home Academic Enterprise Announcements Article Lyons Named Chair, Department of Nutrition, Metabolism, and Rehabilitation Sciences May 30, 2023 • 8:00 a.m. The University of Texas Medical Branch School of Health Professions is pleased to announce the appointment of Elizabeth Lyons, PhD, MPH, as the Chair of the Department of Nutrition, Metabolism, and Rehabilitation Sciences, effective June 1. Dr. Lyons, who has been a valued member of UTMB since 2011, has been serving as the interim chair of the department for the past year.Dr. Lyons brings a wealth of expertise and accomplishments to her new role. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from The University of Texas at Austin, as well as a Master of Public Health (MPH) and a Doctorate in Health Behavior and Health Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her research areas encompass technology-based motivational interventions, physical activity, and games/play.A highly regarded academic, Dr. Lyons has made significant contributions to the field of nutrition and rehabilitation sciences. Her commitment to research and innovation has earned her the position of Grace Bucksch Gnitzinger Distinguished Professor in Aging and a fellowship at the Sealy Center on Aging.Please join us in congratulating Dr. Elizabeth Lyons on her well-deserved appointment. She will be presenting her plans for the department on June 22nd at noon in the Marie Hall Room. This presentation will provide an exciting opportunity to learn more about her vision for advancing the department’s mission and fostering excellence in nutrition, metabolism, and rehabilitation sciences.
