Dr. Vicente Resto serves as the Chief Physician Executive (CPE) of Faculty Group Practice and Senior Vice President (SVP) of Health System Ambulatory Operations & Surgical Services. As Chief Physician Executive, he provides leadership and representation of the Faculty Group Practice’s efforts for institutional issues, such as strategic planning, marketing, operations, managed care contracting, and enhancing physician engagement. In addition, as SVP, he plays a key role in clinic and procedural area operations, business development to promote growth, quality and access to our patients. 

His leadership is informed by his professional experiences as a physician scientist and chairman, and active clinical practice as a head and neck surgeon, focusing on facial plastics, reconstructive surgery and skull base surgery. He completed the combined MD-PhD program at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, with his PhD focused on cancer genetics. He next pursued internship training in General Surgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital, followed by residency training in the Harvard Combined Program in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. In 2006, he completed advanced clinical fellowship training in Head and Neck Oncology, Skull Base and Microvascular Reconstructive Surgery at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston. He joined the full-time faculty at UTMB in July 2006. In December 2022, he earned his MBA from Rice University's Jesse Jones School of Management.

Not only has he had the great fortune to pursue his personal mission of improving people’s lives at UTMB, but he has also served as a foundational leader in re-establishing, redesigning and repositioning this historic academic health science center. In addition to strong propensities for science and lifelong learning, Dr. Resto has expanded his reach as an academic surgeon-scientist and academic healthcare executive, which has enabled him to train, educate and mentor many individuals working in medical disciplines and the business of medicine.
