Dena Bannan’s journey at the University of Texas Medical Branch began in 1998 when she served as an Administrative Assistant and Trainer in the Health Education Department of UTMB Healthcare Systems, Inc.  After a brief separation, Dena returned to UTMB in 2010, joining the Office of the Provost, where she contributed in various capacities over the years. In August 2024, Dena transitioned to the Office of Faculty Affairs, embracing new opportunities to challenge herself and expand her skill set. 

In her current role, Dena provides dedicated support to Drs. Amanda Persons and Holly West, playing an integral part in the coordination and management of several key programs, including Advancing Research through Mentorship (ARM), the Academy of Master Teachers (AMT), and Teaching Excellence And Mentorship (TEAM). She enjoys sharing her experiential knowledge with colleagues and new team members, empowering them to thrive in their roles.  

Before joining UTMB, Dena dedicated eight years to DePelchin Children's Center in Houston, TX, where she served as an Application Analyst and Trainer. Among her most cherished experiences at DePelchin were her efforts in coordinating and supporting community events that highlighted the significance of foster care and adoption. 

Dena, a native Houstonian, has been married to Raymond, a U.S. Marine Corps combat veteran, since 1991. Outside of work, Dena and Ray love spending quality time with friends and family, trying out new recipes, exploring new travel destinations, birdwatching, and caring for their garden.
