Congress wants the medical establishment to show that progress is being made in fighting cancer. Some variables that might be used are
Death rates - what percent of all Americans die from cancer of various kinds?
Survival rates - what percent of cancer patients survive for five years from the time it was detected?
Discuss the validity of each of these variables as a measure of the effectiveness of cancer treatment.
