Practice Guidelines, Managed Care, and Utilization Review
"While you were Wheezing"

DEFINITIONS
- Clinical Practice
Guidelines/Critical Pathways - Clinical Practice guidelines are
nationally standardized recommendations for health care developed by a
formal process that incorporates the best scientific evidence of
effectiveness with expert opinion. They are intended to specify
recommendations for treatment methods regarding diagnoses and procedures.
They differ from standards in that they are not applied rigidly and followed
in virtually all cases. Practice guidelines are designed to be flexible,
depending on patient needs and clinical judgment.
- Primary Care Guidelines
- Primary Care Guidelines were developed to assist the Primary Care
Physician through the treatment process for patients with related diagnoses
and deciding when consultation is appropriate.
We invite you to study the UTMB Clinical Practice
