Physician Healer Scholarly Concentration
Augmenting skills in the ‘Art of Medicine’


The Physician Healer Scholarly Concentration is designed to mentor students as they develop their professional identity as doctors and healers. The training focuses on self-awareness, self-reflection, interpersonal communication skills, self-care and work-life balance. Being a source of healing for the suffering of another is both a responsibility and a privilege and in addition to our technical knowledge and skills, we need training in equanimity, wisdom and compassion.

Work with clinical faculty during your first 2 years of medical school, likely in your desired area of medicine

  • Monthly small group dinners with faculty (6 students; 2 clinical faculty); dinner is free
  • Same faculty members for all four years
  • Potential letter of recommendation for residency

 

Two months' worth of elective credit towards your fourth year before beginning second year

  • Required Preceptorship in both May and June of your first year
  • Clinical shadowing
  • 4 longitudinal courses, each session 2-4 hours long, over a 7 week period
  • 10 days off at the end of the preceptorship prior at start of 2nd year
  • Weekend retreat in 2nd month of preceptorship

  • Complete your Scholarly Concentration Project during your required BSHS selective during your fourth year.
