Pediatric Residency Program

Clinical Sites

UTMB Pediatric residents have an array of clinical sites where their training is completed. Most hospital rotations are based in Galveston at John Sealy Hospital, which includes inpatient and neonatal services. Our clinics are spread over the Gulf Coast area and include Galveston’s Primary Care Pavilion, League City’s UTMB Pediatrics Bay Colony, and Webster’s UTMB Clear Lake Blossom locations. Residents also have experiences in the Clear Lake Campus location for inpatient and ED services as well as other specialty clinics in Galveston and the mainland. We are proud to continue growing our geographic scope in parallel with our department and UTMB.

GALVESTON CAMPUS

John Sealy Hospital

JohnSealy Entry

John Sealy Women’s and Children’s Hospital is home to our hospital and neonatal services on Galveston Island. Our Pediatric Hospital Medicine is a Pediatric General Medicine service with 24-beds spanning 2 floors of the hospital, with 8 of those beds being available for escalation to intermediate care. Our subspecialty teams provide consultation for any needed support.

Our Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) has 8 individualized beds within private rooms allowing families to stay with their children, supporting them during their hospitalization.

Our Neonatal services include a newborn nursery and neonatal intensive care unit. At UTMB, we are proud to be a certified Baby-Friendly Institution. Our infants within the newborn service are provided care that supports the maternal-infant bond. Infants room-in with mothers and are provided individualized support to start and maintain breastfeeding. We have 32 mother-baby rooms.

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) has 42 single, double, or multi-occupancy rooms with capability to care for 60+ infants on the census. We are a Level IV NICU per Texas DSHS Accreditation and provide the littlest of patients the most exceptional care.

In addition to our pediatric services, the John Sealy Hospital is home to our Obstetric services, allowing maternal-infant care in a single setting. These services include 16 labor and delivery suites, 4 maternal intensive care unit rooms, 12 high-risk obstetric/antepartum rooms, 7 labor and delivery triage rooms, and 4 C-section operating rooms.
