Metabolic Genetics and Newborn Screening

Metabolic genetics provides counseling, surveillance, and treatment for patients with inborn errors of metabolism such as phenylketonuria, glutaric aciduria, etc. Our patients work closely with our metabolic dietitian and are provided with dynamic management in accordance with their health needs.

We facilitate diagnostic confirmation for patients that are found to be positive through the Texas DSHS Newborn Screening Program that are referred to our center. We also provide consultation to providers in other cities throughout Texas that have patients with positive screens and require assistance in coordinating diagnostic work-up.

This clinic provides both Primary Care and Specialty Care services to children and youth from birth through 21 years of age. All services are provided in a family-centered setting with specialized education and support to optimize care and outcomes.
This clinic is a state-of-the-art facility. Faculty and resident pediatricians are present in this location, providing care for infants and children from the newborn period through adolescence. As in our other locations (Island Pediatrics East and West), there are opportunities for families to participate in clinical studies, including those for vaccines.
