The latchkey represents the symbol of the American Osler Society. Osler gave latchkeys to several of his junior house staff (including Harvey Cushing) so they could have access to his home library in Baltimore. The favored house staff became known as the “latchkeyers.” - The Quotable Osler

The Latch Key Room is designed for use by the Osler Student Societies of the John P. McGovern Academy of Oslerian Medicine and their faculty mentors. Located on the ground floor of Old Red, Room G.206, it is available for meetings and gatherings Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm.

The room contains U-shaped conference tables with fourteen conference chairs. There are 16 additional chairs for use around the perimeter of the room to make seating for 30 people. There is a countertop area designed for serving lunch or snacks. Basic cleaning supplies are available in the lower cabinets. The room is equipped with audio/visual capabilities.
