NCT Number Reference Table Lookup

In July 2005, the  National Library of Medicine began to include the ClinicalTrials.gov registry number in the MEDLINE record when the number is published as part of the original paper. The format for the ClinicalTrials.gov registry number is “NCT” followed by an 8-digit number, e.g: NCT00000419”. The NCT Number is the ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier Number.

ClinicalTrials.gov provides patients, their family members, and the public with easy and free access to information on clinical studies for a wide range of diseases and conditions. A clinical trial is a research study using human volunteers to answer specific health questions. The International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) has required that all clinical trials be publicly registered before papers reporting the results of the clinical trial are submitted and accepted for publication. See the ICMJE Web site for their editorial and updates on clinical trial registration.
