Telecommunicator Jamey Harris and Detective Harold Beasley received the Commendation of Merit

Telecommunicator Jamey Harris and Detective Harold Beasley from the University of Texas Medical Branch Police department received the Commendation of Merit for their efforts identifying a patient admitted to a UTMB hospital.

 "Their collaborative efforts embody the highest standards of our commitment to public safety," said Assistant Chief David De Ore of UTMB PD, “Their relentless efforts ultimately led to the successful identification of the individual and a reunion with their family members.”

The unidentified patient, admitted to the UTMB Clear Lake Hospital on Sept. 15 with no identification and in a coma, prompted a public plea for assistance in identification. UTMB PD dispatch received a crucial call on Sept. 26, triggering Harris and Beasley into action. They initiated the comprehensive investigation, utilizing various police resources and leveraging the power of social media to cross-reference names, dates of birth, and other pertinent identifying information, De Ore said. They successfully cross-referenced information, leading to the individual's identification and a reunion with their family members, De Ore said.

In recognition of their immediate response, unwavering determination, and invaluable contribution to the process of identifying the individual, UTMB PD proudly awarded Harris and Beasley with the Commendation of Merit.
