The Association of Schools Advancing Health Professions (ASAHP) has selected Dr. David Brown for a 2022 Fellowship. Brown, Senior Vice President and Dean of the UTMB School of Health Professions, began working with the organization about four years ago and serves as Chair of the Research, Development, and Innovation Committee.
“I came to UTMB with a vision for giving our faculty more time to do scholarship, to do research, to write grants, to write papers,” Brown said. “So my role has been to teach other schools who may be lagging behind in being able to do that for their faculty.”
Brown said he became active in the organization because as a prominent school of health professions, UTMB can help other schools.
“We are trying to advance scholarly activity within the schools of health professions,” Dr. Brown said. “We are notorious for teaching students how to be professionals, but not necessarily for developing new discoveries.”
Brown, who will attend an awards luncheon at the ASAHP annual meeting in Long Beach, Ca., said the award demonstrates ASAHP’s commitment to the mission of developing scholarship and research.
The ASAHP Fellow awards were designed to provide meaningful recognition to those members who have contributed significantly to allied health as administrators, educators, clinicians, or researchers.
