Non-VSLO External Elective Process

All B forms are due 120 days in advance of the 1st day of the Period during which the elective is being requested. Any requests submitted after 120 days will not be accepted. There are no exceptions to this deadline. Credit cannot be given retroactively for a course in which a student was not officially enrolled and approved to start within the timeframe above.

Student Self-Created Electives

Please be aware of the rules below before submitting a Student Created Elective.

• This elective cannot be used for VSLO rotations.
• This elective can only be used for general elective credit and cannot be used for clinical elective credit.
• Elective has to be done off campus (Non-UTMB Campus).
• Electives must be a minimum of 2 weeks.
• Students are required to find their own mentor before submitting an elective.
• An elective will need to be submitted at least 60 days prior to start date. Anything submitted after 60 days will not be accepted.
• No student can use a family member as their mentor.
• Electives Committe Approval—The committee meets once a month to review these electives. You will hear from the committee once your elective has been reviewed.
• Faculty Vetting.
• Affiliation Agreements.
• WOS appointments (COVID vaccination cards.)
