Learning Objectives
This selective will focus on concepts in medical education.
Students will both learn about principles in education and work in the role of teacher for premedical students.

(1) review anatomy and relevant physical examination skills to allow teaching of the musculoskeletal and neurological examination to first year medical students.

(2) participate in small group didactics to address core principles in healthcare education including design of teaching materials and providing feedback to learners.

Describe the qualifications background and career goals or interests of students who would benefit from the course:
any student entering residency in an academic medical center with exposure to students will benefit from this elective. Students will return to the basics in anatomy to facilitate teaching physical examination techniques to beginning medical students. Students will also have didactic time to work on the development of clinical reasoning modules. A specific focus on giving and receiving feedback will be included to enhance this important skill.

Description of course activities
Students enrolled in this course will have direct teaching requirements with the first year medical students. Demonstration and practice of the musculoskeletal and neurological examinations with be included.
Students will also have didactic sessions to allow the exploration of AI models for the development of clinical reasoning cases.
There will also be tutorials e for addressing principles of feedback.
Some preparation and outside reading will be required, but this will be included in the weekly schedule.

Satisfactory participation in all didactics and assignments; short reflective paper at the end of the 4-week elective.

2.  Written Assignment (Homework, projects, notes, papers, abstracts, etc.)
A. Frequency of written assignment(s)
weekly - exact frequency will depend on the topic(s) being addressed
B. Type of written assignment
Seminars or tutorials culminating in a research paper.
Basic science research plus documented written report.
Humanities, social sciences, biostatistical or epidemiological research culminating in a scholarly paper or written report.
Clinically-based written reports focusing on a basic science or humanities problem.
Journal club written reports
Grant proposals
Literature review
Oral presentation plus written report.
Other modality with a self-directed, scholarly research component culminating in a written report.
C. Format of written assignment
The selective will conclude with a short reflective paper on key concepts learned. Faculty will guide the students through the structure of this paper.
D. Method of content selection (student-selected, assigned, relate to cases, etc.)
A variety of topics will be offered as options- all directly related to medical education. Students will be expected to select pertinent readings to enhance their understanding of the core topic.

3.  Oral Presentation
  A. Frequency / duration of presentation(s)?
Weekly presentations at the end of the didactic sessions will be expected. Each student will be responsible to one presentation during the elective.
  B. Type and format of presentation

    Self-assessment   Peer assessment   Faculty assessment
  E. Method of content selection
    Student-selected topic   Assigned topic

4.  Professionalism
What expectations do you have for the student to demonstrate participation in the elective (e.g. small group activities, seminars, thoughtful questions, providing resources, journal club, resident lecture attendance)?

The instructor will discuss principles of appropriate attribution and the referencing of literature with the student. The student is expected to understand and to adhere to the principle that all presented work must be solely the student’s own.

this will be discussed during the course orientation on the first day.

5.  Other Modes of Evaluation
  Please explain below.
