Any student interested in the academic practice of Internal Medicine
Topics Covered: Pulmonary, Rheumatology, Endocrine, and Gastrointestinal.

Description of course
activities |
Assignments of presentations will be made on the first day of the course. A total of 32 cases from the archives of Mystery Diagnosis will be viewed during the course. Each episode is approximately 15 minutes. Each student will be responsible for giving a formal PowerPoint presentation based on their assigned case. Each PowerPoint presentation will consist of approximately 10 to 12 slides. Presentations will take place by Zoom. Each presentation will last 15 minutes with a 5-minute discussion to follow. Copies of an evidence-based case report or review article relevant to the case discussed should be brought to the presentation session. |

Students must attend weekly presentation sessions by Zoom. Presentation days may vary by block. Assignments for each weekly session will be given out on the first Monday at 9:00 AM orientation by Zoom. Each presentation must be deemed satisfactory by the facilitator. |

A written presentation should be turned in at the end of the rotation. The final written product should be at least 10 pages in length, not including references or figures. References listed on the last page. |

The format should be as follows: The format should be as follows: Case summary (based on video vignette); Usual presentation (symptoms, manifestations, and clinical signs); Why was the diagnosis missed? (e.g. unusual presentation, lack of proper testing, lack of basic science knowledge) Laboratory evaluation (blood work and imaging); Treatment (e.g. medication and surgery); Background (historical perspective and epidemiology); Conclusion (summarize major points, what did you learn?) |
