| Collection: |
Bone marrow aspirate, CSF, serous fluids, blood. Collect in EDTA. Invert promptly to prevent clotting. CSF- standard sterile tube.

| Storage/Transport: | All types of specimens should be delivered to lab promptly. Bone marrow aspirates should be delivered within 30 minutes.
|
| Causes for Rejection: | QNS, old specimen, identification errors, receipt in lab after hours unless prior arrangements made.
|
| Reference Range: | Normal bone marrow is positive for hemosiderin. All body fluids should be negative
|
| Turnaround Time: | 24 hours
|
| Methodology: | Cytochemical demonstration of iron-bearing pigment (Perl’s Prussian Blue); Microscopy.
|
| Performed: | Bone Marrow Aspirate samples are accepted 8AM - 2PM, Monday-Friday, Room 5.142, McCullough. Body fluids and peripheral blood accepted 24 hours.
