| Specimen Requirements: | |
| Collection: | 7 mL of blood in red-topped vacutainer tube. (Min: 3mL); Sample must be kept at body temperature (37°C) and hand delivered to the laboratory within 30 minutes of collection. |
| Storage/Transport: | Prompt delivery to Sample Management within 30 minutes of collection. |
| Specimen Preparation: | Place specimen in 37°C water bath for one hour. Centrifuge and transfer as much serum as possible without touching the buffy coat into a clean 15 mL screw cap graduated centrifuge tube. Store serum sample at room temperature. |
| Stability: | Room temperature for ≤ 7 days. |
| Causes for Rejection: | Blood drawn in SST, specimen not deliver at the correct temperature, incomplete and/or incorrect sample identification, improper storage/transport, gross hemolysis and lipemia. |
