Storage/Transport: | Sample should be stored/transported refrigerated at 2-8°C.

Specimen Preparation: | Freezing of blood is not recommended.

Stability: | Red cell G-6-PD is stable in whole blood for one week when refrigerated at 2-8°C.

Causes for Rejection: | Clotted, hemolyzed, collected in wrong tube, improperly stored and/or transported, identification error.

Reference Range: |
Normal = normal G6PD activity; no evidence of deficiency.
|
Turnaround Time: | 5 days. Testing performed two days per week. Specimens submitted after 9am on testing days will be analyzed with the next scheduled batch.

Methodology: | Spot Fluorescence using modification of Beutler revised method.
|
Performed: | Samples are accepted 24 hours per day at Sample Management, CSW 7.412.
