Specimen Requirements: | Preferred: Fresh specimens sent to the laboratory immediately; Acceptable: specimens refrigerated 1-2 days. Appropriate containers include capped syringes with needle removed, 1-liter vacutainer bottles.
Do not add alcohol or other fixative. |

Causes for Rejection: | Delayed delivery of fresh specimens, incomplete and/or improper labeling, insufficient pertinent clinical history. If proper specimen identification and information such as the collection date/time and collector are not present, specimen will either be referred back to medical staff or delayed until information is obtained. |
