Fellowship Alumni

Ketan graduated from University of Houston with a B.S. in Computer Science and a minor in Math in May 2019. He started the fellowship program in July 2019. In his free time, he enjoys listening to music and playing video games.

He really appreciated the opportunity to work on a Qlik Sense application tracking pay parity at UTMB! It was a great learning experience, and he also worked on the migration from the old UTMB iSpace file sharing to Microsoft SharePoint.

Ketan's advice to future fellows is to reach out and take initiative. It may seem daunting at first, but just remember that everyone is more than willing to help you and that we all want you to succeed!

Kyle graduated from the University of Houston with degrees in Computer Engineering Technology and Computer Science. In his spare time, he plays video games and enjoys playing with his niece.

One of his favorite things to work on during his Fellowship was the Qlik Sense application that was used to display metrics on performance and happiness of UTMB employees.

Kyle's advice to future fellows is to make the most of your time during the fellowship and don't be afraid to ask for help.

Syeda graduated from University of Houston in Spring of 2019, with a bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems from Bauer College of Business. Syeda started her fellowship in July of 2019. In her free time Syeda loves to read, watch Netflix, travel and spend time with her family and friends.

One of the favorite things about this Fellowship program for Syeda was the opportunity to network with almost everyone at all level ranging from an Intern to the CIO of UTMB.

Syeda’s advice to the future fellows is to take advantage of this great opportunity, speak up and make yourself known, network and build as many connections as possible. Go in the fellowship with an open mind, you will be surprised by how much you will learn.

Christina enjoys meeting new people and BOBA (this is your chance to use google if you don't know what BOBA is). She attended the University of Houston, where she obtained her undergraduate degree in Management Information Systems. After graduating in May 2017, she started her six-month fellowship program at UTMB during the Summer and Fall of 2017. Throughout her fellowship rotation, she was able to gain an immense amount of knowledge and experience that has enabled her to move forward in her IT career.

The advice she wished to leave for future fellows is that the opportunities at UTMB are endless as long as you take advantage of them.

David graduated in May 2016 from University of Houston-Main with a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Information Systems and began the Fellowship Program in January of 2017. In his spare time, he enjoys video games, volleyball, watching UH football, and bowling. In the future, David plans to pursue a Master's Degree.

David’s advice to future fellows is to learn as much as you can during the Fellowship and to get to know as many of your coworkers as you can.

Erick graduated in December 2016 from the University of Houston-Main with a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering Technology and began the Fellowship Program in January of 2017. In his spare time, Erick attends CrossFit and works on printing 3D models for his customers.

Erick’s advice to future fellows is to take good notes during the rotations.

Evan received his BBA in Management Information Systems from the University of Houston in May 2017 and started the Fellowship Program the following June. ;He is currently an Associate Applications Systems Analyst on the Clinical and Research Applications team in the BIDA department. In his spare time, he enjoys traveling, being outdoors, playing video games and spending time with friends and family. ;In the future, Evan plans to develop his technical and leadership skills and pursue a Master’s degree.

Evan’s advice to future fellows is to try to build relationships with the people around you, absorb as much knowledge as you can during the fellowship, be yourself, and never stop learning.

Maria graduated in December 2016 from the University of Houston-Main with a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Information Systems and a Minor in Mathematics and began the Fellowship Program in January of 2017.

Maria’s advice to future fellows is to show initiative throughout the Fellowship.

Dianne received her AAS degree in Natural Science from San Jacinto College and started the Fellowship in August 2015. Her current position is with IS-BIDA as an Applications Systems analyst supporting Clinical Research Applications. In her spare time, she likes to enjoy anything that revolves around eating food, binging on TV shows, managing her daughter’s Instagram @babyhazelrae (shameless plug) and working out. In the future, Dianne plans to get her bachelor's degree in Computer Science.

Dianne's advice to future fellows is to learn as much as you can in the rotations throughout the different departments. Build working relationships with as many people as you can. One day it will come in handy.

Khanh received her degree in Computer Science from University of Houston - Clear Lake and started the Fellowship Program in January of 2016. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, eating good food, and spending time with her family. In the future, Khanh plans to pursue a masters degree in Computer Science and become a professional programmer.

Khanh’s advice to future fellows is to learn as much as you can during the fellowship and be a self-motivated learner and worker.

Sunil received his bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering from University of Houston-Main Campus and started the Fellowship Program in January of 2016. In his spare time, he enjoys reading books, cooking, working out, and following sports. In the future, Sunil plans to pursue a masters degree in order to transition into a management role.

Sunil’s advice to future fellows is to network with people in every area of Information Services and to try to learn new systems, even if it's from complete scratch.

Tyler graduated in December 2015 from the University of Houston with a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Information Systems and began the Fellowship Program with Khanh and Sunil in January of 2016. Outside of work, Tyler enjoys playing music, reading books, and spending time with friends. In the future, Tyler plans to work toward a Master's Degree and a position in management.

Tyler’s advice to future fellows is to utilize the opportunities in the Fellowship to learn as much as you can about as many systems as you can, and to take advantage of all of the opportunities to meet and get to know your coworkers at UTMB.

Andrew graduated from UH-Downtown with a degree in Computer Information Systems and started the Fellowship program in July of 2014.; He has been in his current position as a Senior Applications Systems Analyst since March of 2018 on the Enterprise Performance Systems team; In his spare time, he enjoys all things sports especially baseball and soccer, as well as cooking, BBQing, brewing beer but most of all chasing his two kids around the house. In the future, Andrew plans to pursue a Master’s degree unless he gets really good at brewing beer and then might open his own brewpub.

Andrew’s advice to future fellows is network.  The old adage may sound cliché, but it’s not just what you know but who you know that gets you to greater heights.

Tran received her degree in Management Information Systems and Supply Chain Management from University of Houston-Main and started the Fellowship Program in July of 2014. She has been in her current position with Administrative Information Systems group as Business Systems Analyst since February of 2015. In her spare time, she enjoys baking, hiking, and camping. In the future, Tran plans to pursue an MBA and transition to a management role.

Tran’s advice to future fellows is to follow your passion, be prepared to work hard and go for it. Don’t limit your dreams. You can go as far as your mind lets you. Believe in yourself!

Chris received his degree in Management Information Systems from Wayland Baptist University and started the Fellowship Program in June of 2013. He has been in his current position with Enterprise Information Systems as an Associate Application Systems Analyst supporting the InfoEd application since April of 2014. In his spare time, he enjoys surfing. In the future, Chris plans to pursue an MBA or a masters degree in web programming and transition to a management role.

Chris's advice to future fellows is that it is an awesome way to get your foot in the door, so make the most of it. Also, stay golden Ponyboy.

Solomon received his bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems from University of Houston Main Campus in the Fall of 2013. Solomon started the Fellowship Program March 2014. He has been in his current position with IS - Software Development Solutions as a Full Stack .NET developer since October 2014. In his spare time, he enjoys long walks on the beach, learning, adventuring, technology, spending time with family, and staying physically active. In the future, Solomon plans on pursuing a Master’s Degree and working to become a technical lead.

Solomon’s advice to future fellows is to network and build connections during the fellowship. Don’t settle for open positions, but instead find the job you can see yourself doing for years to come. "If you find a job you love, you will never have to work a day in your life."

Tomasr eceived his AAS in Network Administration from College of the Mainland and started the Fellowship Program in June of 2013. He has been in his current position with the Administrative Information Systems team as an Applications Systems Analyst performing database administration since January of 2014. In his spare time, he enjoys golfing, coaching his kids’ sports teams, watching movies, and spending time with family. In the future, Tomas plans on pursuing his bachelor's degree and becoming a full-time DBA.

Tomas's advice to future fellows is to soak in as much as possible while in the Fellowship. Don’t just focus on the actual job itself, but the people that are in the jobs. That relationship, even if for one day, may come in handy when searching for your landing spot in IS.

AJ received his undergraduate degree from Wayland Baptist University and his masters in Digital Media Studies from the University of Houston - Clear Lake. He was in the inaugural duo of IS Fellows that started in February of 2013. He has been in his current position with Clinical Information Systems as an Application Systems Analyst for the Epic EMR system since August of 2013. In his spare time, he enjoys hobbies such as photography, videography, movies, football, and fun. In the future, AJ looks forward to getting married, starting a family, and being awesome.

AJ's advice to future fellows is to build connections with as many people as you can, and if you find something you think is interesting, ask to be shown more about it, and try to learn all you can about that job.

Cody received his degree in Management Information Systems from Baylor University. He was in the inaugural duo of IS Fellows that started in February of 2013. He has been in his current position with Administrative Information Systems as an Associate Systems Analyst on the Incident Management team since August of 2013. In his spare time, he enjoys hobbies such as yelling at the Dallas Cowboys, Crossfit, beer tasting, and butterfly watching. In the future, Cody looks forward to transitioning into a management role.

Cody's advice to future fellows is to take risks, ask plenty of questions, and be yourself. Unless you’re a Unicorn. Then be a Unicorn.
