The Division of General Medicine has a unique approach to patient care. Our physicians and nurse practitioners are assigned to one of three patient care teams, creating three smaller group practices. The teams are named after our some of our
legendary Internal Medicine physician faculty who excelled in patient care and medical education (Daniels, Powell, and Remmers). Our Internal Medicine Residents are also assigned to one of the teams for the duration of their training.
Patients are lifelong members of one of the three teams and see the same set of physicians and residents, both on the inpatient side and on the outpatient side. For example, a Daniels team patient will be taken care of by Daniels team in the
hospital and follow up with the Daniels team in the outpatient clinic. This approach allows us to personalize care by having patients assigned to smaller groups of providers who come to know the patients in detail. Conversely, patients
identify with their team, and know that they will be seeing familiar faces in both the hospital and clinics.
Our faculty and staff, in conjunction with the UTMB Internal Medicine Residency Program, provides patient care at various locations across the UTMB Health System. Our main outpatient clinics are located at the Primary Care Pavilion located at 400 Harborside Drive. We also provide care on the mainland at our League City location inside the Multispecialty Center located at 2660 Gulf Freeway South.
Regarding inpatient care, we serve as the “hospitalists” for the general medicine patients admitted to Jennie Sealy Hospital and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Hospital Galveston. In addition to primary hospital care, we provide
internal medicine consultation to various specialty services throughout the hospital.
