UTMB employees are dancing off the inches in a Zumba class offered Mondays and Wednesdays, 5:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m., in the lobby of the Specialty Care Center at Victory Lakes. Already 30 employees who were measured at the beginning and end of an eight-week period have lost a collective 542 inches!
Winners of the recent Zumba “Inch Off Challenge’’ were Jeanne Avandsalehi, Maria Torres, and Michelle Cripps. Employees Debbie Och and Gretchen Hall also were recognized for decreasing their health risk waist/hip ratio.
The class, led by Zumba instructor Ashley Nixon, an RN at the Specialty Care Center, is part of an ambulatory employee engagement team initiative and supports health promotion at the Specialty Care Center at the Victory Lakes campus.
Participants, who pay a nominal fee, must be UTMB employees. A Tai Chi exercise class to provide another style of exercise and stress relief is being offered on Thursday evenings. For more information, send an email to victorylakes@utmb.edu
