The UTMB Student Government Association celebrated the new extended hours of the Alumni Field House with music, king-of-the-court dodgeball and basketball knock-out games and a raffle featuring SGA umbrellas, bags, chairs, mugs and blankets. The first 100 people also received a free towels and pedometers.
The Alumni Field House extended its hours of operation by a total of six hours per week and is now open to members from 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekends and holidays. The field house will continue to close at 9 p.m. on Fridays. The new schedule extends evening hours of operation by one hour each night, with the exception of Fridays.
William R. Elger, executive vice president and chief business and finance officer, said the move restores the field house’s operational schedule to pre-Hurricane Ike hours.
“As we continue to recover from the storm, we are ramping up and re-opening facilities as our budget allows and our needs indicate.”
Elger added that many members have asked for the extended hours, in particular members of the Student Government Association.
“We are pleased to be able to respond to this request, and we plan to closely monitor use of the Field House facility during various periods, including these extended hours, to make sure the hours are aligned with the needs of our members," Elger said.
