Debra Cooper, a postdoctoral fellow in the UTMB Center for Addiction Research, has been selected for the 2014 Washington Fellows Program of the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics. The program provides young scientists with the skills and opportunity to be advocates for science, helping them understand how policy issues are shaped in Washington.

The School of Nursing welcomes new faculty members Laura King, Jacquelyn Svoboda and Sandi McCarthy as assistant professors in the baccalaureate program and Kaci Woods-Chinn, as assistant professor and academic counselor.

The School of Health Professions welcomes new faculty Adrianna Laprea and Laurie Farroni in physical therapy; Claudia Hilton in occupational therapy; Barbara Slusher in physician assistant studies and Bruce Adcock in respiratory care.

Some of our UTMB police officers came to the aid of the Junior Girl Scout Troop 26144, helping them earn their detective badges.

 

Pictured (back) are Sgt. Noel Layer, Sgt. Christopher Fultz and Lt. Ryan Erwin. The officers fingerprinted the troop members and showed them how to gather latent prints from objects. The officers also explainedhow detectives catch criminals using fingerprints and detailed some of the equipment used in solving crimes, including one of their most powerful tools - observation.

 

The officers were rewarded for their effort with, what else? Girl Scout cookies!   “The troop really had the chance to get to know these officers and hear about their unique jobs keeping us safe,” said Galveston National Laboratory attending veterinarian Dr. Curtis Klages. Dr. Klages’ wife Nicole is the scout’s troop leader.
