Dissertation Colloquium – Amerisa Waters

The UTMB Health Institute for the Medical Humanities will host a dissertation colloquium for Amerisa Waters, BFA, MA on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm. The event will take place in 3.102 on the third floor of the Ashbel Smith Building, also known as Old Red.

Ms. Waters will present her research beginning at Noon. Guests are also invited to tour the art exhibit and interactive art-making space that accompany her work.

Ms. Water's dissertation, entitled "'Healthcaring': Learning to Resist the Logic of Letting Go through Arts-based Curriculum in a Student-run Free Clinic", is a theoretical exploration of art as a social justice-based educational intervention for health care learners. Her art intervention is intended to help learners better understand and resist the "logic of letting go" that is pervasive in the United States' heath care.
