Requesting Reasonable Accommodations
UTMB is responsible for ensuring that individuals with disabilities—including but not limited to staff, faculty, students and patients—are afforded and provided reasonable accommodations as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act as
Amended (ADAAA) of 2008. Requests for accommodation are considered on an individual basis through an interactive process with the employee, supervisor and Institutional ADA Officer. All discussions and outcomes are handled with the highest level of
confidentiality.
Ergonomic Job Site Evaluation
The university offers free, ergonomic assessments to determine what—if any—ergonomic suggestions are required to ensure that your work space is suitable and appropriate.
Temporary Modified Duty
The Temporary Modified Duty Program ensures that all individuals who return to work with temporarily disabling conditions will be afforded a job modification on a temporary basis. The program includes both work and non-work related injuries and illnesses,
per UTMB policy.
Permanent Job Accommodation
The Permanent Job Accommodation Program, in accordance with UTMB policy, ensures that all individuals who have permanently disabling conditions or restrictions will engage in the interactive process to determine what—if any—reasonable accommodations can be provided.
Permanent job accommodations are considered on an individual basis.
Leave as a Reasonable Accommodation
This process is a collaborative effort established to provide a reasonable leave of absence to individuals who need additional and unprotected leave. Leave as a reasonable accommodation is considered on an individual basis, and a Physician’s Work Certification and/or appropriate medical documentation is required.
Please note that this process complies with UTMB’s Leave of Absence Without Pay Policy.
